B I O G R A P H Y
I am a young writer and director of Pakistani-Canadian heritage with a deep passion for cinematography and experimental lighting. My portfolio includes directing documentaries and films and crafting scenes for various film productions in Chicago, Doha, and Lahore.
With extensive knowledge spanning production, pre-production, and post-production phases, I aspire to direct my screenplays, specializing in psychological thrillers and family dramas. I'm also eager to explore opportunities as a director of photography in filmmaking. My creative work draws inspiration from my formative experiences growing up in a female-dominated household in a transforming Pakistan, and it is intimately linked to the resurgence of dance and performance arts in my homeland.
During my academic journey at Northwestern University, I specialized in various courses, including screenwriting, music composition, production, and post-production. In addition to my studies, I actively contributed to student productions as an integral member of the Studio 20Q board.
I've been fortunate to receive notable recognition and grants for my contributions to the world of production. In 2023, my work was acknowledged at the prestigious Cannes World Film Festival, where a film I worked on as a first camera assistant received the Best Student Film award. In the same year, I was granted a research award from IAS_NUQ and produced a one-person documentary about the gendered impact of floods in Pakistan (2022). In 2022, I had the privilege of serving as a member of the FIFA World Cup Films team as a cinematographer and camera assistant. Additionally, I received support through the Undergraduate Research Experience Program by the Qatar National Research Fund in 2022 for my research on the curricula and lifestyles of students in Education City, Qatar. It is with great honor that I will be showcasing my research at the Pacific Sociological Association conference in San Diego in March 2024.
Currently, I am deeply involved in the production of my short psychological thriller, "3 cm," which explores the sinister aspects of the fashion industry, focusing on models grappling with the relentless pressures of body image standards. This project is being funded by Studio 20Q at Northwestern University and is slated to premiere in March 2025.
